On 1 January 2003, control of mergers passed from the Minister for Trade, Enterprise and Employment to the Competition Authority. Since 31 October 2014, the implementation of the general merger rules is entrusted to the new Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), which merged the former Competition Authority and the National Consumer Agency.
