European Business Law, the fourth volume in our series, shows how the European authorities simultaneously abolish all restrictions on access to and exercise of economic activities and support the growth of domestic markets, through the harmonization the internal legislation or the enactment of genuinely unified regulations.

The abolition of restrictions to free movement is not sufficient in itself to build the internal market. A positive action should be added to harmonize and unify the rules in force in the Member States. The principles of primacy and direct applicability represent the driving force of European integration; regulations and directives are the instruments thereof.
