Industrial Property Law

Under Article L. 411-1 of the Intellectual Property Code, the Institut national de la propriété industrielle (INPI)  is a public institution with legal personality and financial autonomy placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Digital Sovereignty. Its mandate is to centralize and disseminate the information necessary for the protection of innovations and the registration of undertakings. It is also charged with conducting awareness and training activities in those areas. The INPI is also the custodian of the proper application of industrial property laws. It is the body responsible for registering and controlling property titles and also administers the national register of companies provided for in Article L. 123-36 of the French Commercial Code . 

The INPI is managed and represented by a director general assisted by a board of directors composed of fourteen members.

Under Article 2 of Ordinance No 2021-1189 of 15 September 2021 establishing the National Register of Undertakings, the Trade and Companies Register becomes the National Register of Undertakings as of 1 January 2023.
